ITU General Secretary confident in Viettel’s ability to address market pressure and demand
In an interview with the Vietnamese press, International Telecommunication Union (ITU) General Secretary, Dr. Hamadoun Touré expressed his confidence and belief in Viettel’s ability to successfully overcome market pressure and satisfy market demand.
During his trip to Vietnam between July 17th and 20th, 2011, Dr. Hamadoun Touré paid a working visit to Viettel and had a meeting session with the press at the headquarter of Vietnam Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) on July 19th. Commenting on the possibility of success by Vietnam enterprises in offshore investment, he said he heard that Viettel had already expanded its footprint to such countries as Laos, Cambodia, Haiti, Mozambique and Peru. He thought that a company who already succeeded in a developing country shall be able to win in another developing one thanks to their successful model duplication. It is also his confidence that Viettel is absolutely able to deal with the market pressures and satisfy market demand, which encouraged him during his meeting with Viettel to recommend Viettel some other countries offering new licences
Earlier, in August 2009, ITU Deputy Secretary General, Mr. Houlin Zhao paid a working visit to Viettel. At that time, Viettel had just officially joined ITU. Houlin Zhao expressed ITU’s warm welcome to Viettel as a new dynamic member from Vietnam. And that he was really impressed by Viettel’s determination, not only in domestic market but also in many other important markets. ITU leader hopes that Viettel’s and Vietnam’s value shall be contributed to ITU.
